Our new leader won’t see this post. Maybe I’m the only one who will ever see this post. But, it’s here to both calm my mind & as a record, ready for the day when I can say “I told you so”
This past weekend he held what essentially amounted to a campaign rally. Gathering thousands of supporters together & puffing up his ego. It was truly head-scratching to me. One month after inauguration & we’ve got a stump speech already?
So I decided to post my thoughts on why he, and those around him, need to get their shit together & understand that they are actually outnumbered.
There is no mandate. There was no landslide. Adapt or die, as it were. (And by die I mean settle for one term as POTUS, if he makes it through the first term)
I have, so far, seen absolutely no effort to govern for everyone in this country, to bring us a little closer together, to work for all of us. And that, my friends, is horseshit of the highest order.
#1 Trump did win electoral vote, but by under 80,000 votes. That’s it. Easily enough votes to have been affected by fake news stories targeting HRC and Russian involvement.
#2 He lost popular vote by around 2.8 mil
#3 Republicans lost seats in the house & senate while maintaining control of both
#4 If they lose 3 seats in senate, they lose control
#5 If they lose 24 or so seats in house, they lose control
#6 There is no mandate based on the above points
#7 Trump’s slim victory can mostly be attributed to lack of engagement on Dems side & their assumption that the HRC victory was in the bag, although the continuous flow of news regarding the Russians’ involvement may change my mind on that statement.
#8 Trump’s actions so far are doing two things….comforting the base (minority of voters) & energizing those who voted for HRC and mobilizing those who didn’t vote because they incorrectly expected an HRC win.
I am an Independent. I wanted to make these points because I don’t feel anyone right now is being objective & truly assessing what’s going on in our country. He did win, he is the President. But, if he wants another term, if he wants to maintain control of Congress, this can’t continue the way it is now. The large protests easily prove that the 77K or so votes that gave him the electoral college can be wiped out pretty handily. The name-calling, the disregard for the 73 million voters who chose someone OTHER than Trump, will cost them in the end. And yes, I know the Dems aren’t doing a great job right now either, but the administration is underestimating the people out there & not clearly looking at the numbers. All out of his fear of being inadequate and/or illegitimate.
Sadly, due to the electoral college (which is outdated & should be abolished, more to come on that in another post) he is legitimate, for now, but I’m sure as hell certain he is inadequate in every. possible. way.
